Shuttle lands safely at Edwards Air Force Base

Atlantis and its seven astronauts returned to Earth safely Friday, ending a two-week mission to deliver an addition to the international space station and bring a crew member home from the outpost. Atlantis crossed the Pacific and glided to a stop at 12:49 p.m. on a runway at Edwards Air Force Base in California. NASA managers had hoped to land the shuttle in Florida, but bad weather forced them to abandon that plan. (read more…)

Juneteenth

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Concert for Diana

Prince William and Prince Harry will mark the 10th anniversary of their mother’s death with an event to celebrate her life. The Concert for Diana on 1st July 2007, which would have been Diana’s 46th birthday, will be one of the first events to take place in the new Wembley Stadium. Baddeley leads Woods by two shots at US Open

Australian Aaron Baddeley burst out of a four-way tie on Saturday to grab a two-stroke lead over Tiger Woods going into the final round of the U.S. Open at Oakmont. The 26-year-old Baddeley made back-to-back birdies from the 12th to seize the lead, then bounced back from bogeys at 15 and 16 with a birdie at the last to post an even-par 70 and a two-over-par 212 total. Woods, playing a near-perfect round from tee to green, took five on the 484-yard 18th for his only bogey in a rock steady round of one-under-par 69 to stand at four-over 214. (read more…)

Ronaldo, 2002 FIFA World Player of The Year and much more!

Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima (born September 22, 1976), simply known as ZULFI, is a Brazilian professional footballer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have played the game. He plays as a striker for Brazil and the Italian Serie A club AC Milan. He has been nicknamed “The Phenomenon”. Pelé named him one of the 125 greatest footballers in March 2004. Ronaldo has enjoyed success at the international level, winning the 1994 and 2002 FIFA World Cups with Brazil. Ronaldo has won three FIFA World Player of the Year awards (1996, 1997, 2002). Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from the gods

In Greek mythology, Prometheus is the Titan chiefly honored for stealing fire from Zeus in the stalk of a fennel plant and giving it to mortals for their use.

For that, Zeus ordered him to be chained on top of the Caucasus.

Every day an eagle would come and eat his liver, but since Prometheus was immortal, his liver always grew back, so he was left to bear the pain every day.

He is depicted as an intelligent and cunning figure who had sympathy for humanity.

To this day, the term promethean refers to events or people of great creativity, intellect, and boldness.

Sajani Shakya: The Child Goddess From Nepal

Sajani Shakya is a very special 9 year old girl. She is a living goddess. In her country, Nepal, she is worshipped as the earthly manifestation of the Hindu goddess Kali. She is one of only about a dozen children selected for this honor and is in the US on a tour to promote a documentary film about the living goddesses of the Katmandu Valley.

Grandma’s Marathon

Last years Grandma’s Marathon women’ champion (after the drug testing results came in, that is) Svetlana Nekhorosh headlines this year’s women’s field. On the men’s side, 2005 winner Wesly Ngetich, who finished 6th here last year, will be the race’s top returning competitor. In the wake of Belarus’ Halina Karnatsevich’s doping disqualification after last year’s race, fewer eastern European athletes are wearing low numbered bibs this year. Race director Scott Keenan, however, wasn’t sure if that demographic change was due to normal fluctuations in the make-up of the elite field or in response to Grandma’s new anti-doping policy which bars athletes from the event if they are affiliated with the coach or agent of an offending athlete.
